Tri-Centre Jr. Attack Affiliate Player Process & Form
About Affiliation
The Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) and its member branches define the
affiliate player process as allowing a player registered on a
lower-category team to play with a
higher-category team. This process helps higher teams
fill their rosters while providing valuable development opportunities
for the affiliate player.
Purpose of Affiliate Players Being Rostered
- Player Development: Allows players at a lower division or category to gain experience by practicing and competing at a higher level without leaving their primary team.
- Roster Flexibility: Helps higher-category teams fill gaps in their lineup due to injuries, suspensions, or absences, ensuring they can ice a full, competitive roster.
- Consistency & Compliance: Ensures that all affiliations are documented and approved through the OHF/OMHA process, maintaining fair play and transparency across organizations.
- Player Priority: Reinforces that the affiliate’s first commitment remains with their home team while still giving them the opportunity to support higher-level play when available.
- Organizational Alignment: Encourages collaboration across divisions (e.g., Rep B drawing from Local League) so development opportunities stay within the home organization.
👉 In short, affiliates bridge the gap between player development and team needs — strengthening the organization as a whole.
Key Aspects of the Process
- Eligibility: Player must be registered on a lower-division or category team.
- Example: "A" Rep team must offer "B" Rep players to a Player Affiliation Agreement, and "B" Rep teams must sign players from Local League teams within the Owen Sound, Bruce Peninsula, or Shallow Lake Minor Hockey organizations.
- Purpose: Higher-category teams must reach the maximum roster limit for games.
- Permission: The higher-category team must obtain approval from the affiliate player’s registered team head coach before participation.
- Game Limits: Affiliate players may participate only in the number of games permitted under OHF/OMHA regulations.
- Player Property: An affiliate player remains the property of their registered (lower-category) team.
- Tracking: Teams are responsible for tracking the number of games an affiliate plays.
Important Considerations
- Player Movement: Affiliation follows OHF and Hockey Canada player movement regulations.
- Variations Between Organizations: Rules and limitations may vary slightly between Minor Hockey organizations. Please verify the specific regulations before completing an affiliation offer.
- Priority: A player’s first commitment must remain with their registered team.
- Seasonal Limit: All affiliations are valid only for the current playing season.
- Reference: Team staff must always consult the OHF Rules & Regulations for full details.
